I like the Convenience of Having RetroArch on Steam.when it IS Convenient to Use! LOL) (At least, many of the Conversations I looked up on it seemed to indicate this.)ĭon't get me wrong the Steam Version has a LOT of Potential.they just need to work out the Kinks, LOL (I'm not an Emulation Expert, but I am decently adept at MAME, one of the Biggest Emulation Systems on the 'Net. I had to Unzip all my ROMS, despite RetroArch supposedly being able to use. Plus, there appears to be a significant lack of documentation for the Steam Client Version unless it's discussing Steam Link. You'll likely have to Manually Install the DLC, at least half of it.) Also, the Steam Interface doesn't seem exactly User-Friendly (I can't figure out how to access Quick-Menu from In-Game.) I had to drag in Cheats from Web Version of RetroArch-which i had to Download and Run to get, which seems Counterintuitive to why you would have a Version on Steam at all-even though they are supposed to be Native.) And I STILL don't how to Activate/Use the Cheats at all yet. (Had to move RetroArch ROMS to C:/Drive, despite it's supposing to be able to read the Files from ANY Drive. ![]() I've had quite a few issues due to Steam's Instability with this Platform. and whoever wants to fine-tune learn to do it themselves.ĭepends on how Steam Installed It. Things need to "just work" as a principle. simpler interfaces for general users, and unorthodox methods for advanced users seem to me better than mixing all the options in the final user interface. If the emulators work with few complications, without having to read tutorials to configure, without having to spend time on activities other than pure gameplay, I believe that RetroArch has a lot to gain in visibility and user base.Īs a rule, I think emulators have too many options. ![]() I believe that this audience is the target audience for the steam version. ![]() people with some fluency in using computers, but without time to read documentation or without patience to ask for help in the forum. such as low quality of roms, low quality of emulators, low usability of software, etc. However, there are many people who have had difficulties with emulation in the past, suffered for several different reasons. ![]() There are the groups you reported: purists and anti-piracy.īut I am not talking about them.
